Cairns' appetite grows for hospitality
TOURISM and hospitality courses at Tropical North Queensland TAFE are proving popular for 2013 with some classes already at capacity.
TNQT client services manager Tracy Turner said the enrolments revealed a clear shift on previous years when career opportunities in the sectors were low.
Ms Turner believed increased demand for training was linked to improved confidence in the tourism industry.
"For the first time in three years, we are offering the Opera Reservations Systems course, and people can also enrol in our Chinese Mandarin course which was introduced in late 2012 to prepare the region's tourism staff for the boost in Chinese visitors," she said.
Other courses making a comeback include assistantin nursing, fitness, barista and marine-related courses.
"Pre-vocational courses are also full, including automotive," Ms Turner said.
