Quiet resolve needed to clip Hawks' wings

AARON Grabau is probably the man most qualified to address his side with the big, Hollywood-style speech before tonight's clash with the Hawks in Wollongong.

But it won't be coming.

That's not his style, that is not how he operates and that is not what the Taipans will resort to as they attempt to correct a slump that has seen them drop to last place in the NBL for the first time since round 14 in 2004-05.

Grabau, a veteran of 404 games, knows the best way to address their slump is to just go out and do it. "That's not me, I'm a quiet guy and I've got nothing to say. I think it's just about everyone doing what they need to do individually," he said.
Coach Aaron Fearne agreed with that sentiment.

"I'm just sick of hearing all this talk about 'we're going to do this and that'. Just go and do it," he said.

One man who has been doing it already is point guard Jamar Wilson, averaging close to 20 points a game during the team's four-game losing streak.

"When things are not going well people outside think they know what's going on and say there's always stuff to be done," he said.

"But our problem is consistency; we do two things well, then we blow steam somewhere else."

Getting a good start, and winning the rebound count against a team that has been dominated on the boards recently, will be crucial.

But that task will be made tougher without Dusty Rychart, ruled out with a bruised leg after a fall during Wednesday's training.

He will be replaced by Shaun Bruce, who had seven points in 14 minutes against the Hawks in a Taipans win when they last met.

No Hollywood speeches: Aaron Grabau says the Taipans know what needs to be done - now they just need to do it.
