POLICE will launch a fresh blitz on the Cairns CBD, spearheaded almost entirely by local officers, when Escalate 2 kicks off later this month.

Four days after the inaugural six-month Operation Escalate finished, visiting Queensland Police Commissioner Ian Stewart said the sequel would mimic the first in terms of the crime crackdown but without the intrastate help which saw 20 additional officers brought to town.
