Win a year's supply of bread at Jackley's Bakehouse
BAKER Dale Jackley is rewarding his customers for the success of his two outlets in Cairns.
He is giving away a year's supply of bread to two lucky families to thank them for their support since he opened his bakery and store at Manunda six months ago and at Mt Sheridan three months ago.
Mr Jackley said it was a combination of customer loyalty and hard work that had led to the success of the two Jackley's Bakehouse outlets.
The 30-year-old said it was "passion" that had led to starting a business during tough economic times.
Mr Jackley said the Raintrees shopping centre bakery and retail store and Mt Sheridan Plaza shop were trading well and there were plans for further expansion down the track.
"I worked for Brumbys for 13 years and always had aspirations to open my own bakery."
Mr Jackley said it was his "passion" that had driven him to open not one, but two stores in a short space of time.
"We always planned to expand but it happened faster than we anticipated."
Mr Jackley said he intended to move into wholesale to supply to restaurants and other businesses.
He said it was a family business and he employed 16 people including his wife Bec, her sister Mel, and dad Phil who did deliveries, as well as family friends.
There are two qualified bakers, including Mr Jackley, and two apprentices who start at midnight at Manunda on a rotational basis.
Mr Jackley said he was working 80 to 100 hours a week while his wife worked 50 hours.
"I wouldn't have it any other way. I like to keep my finger on the pulse."
Mr Jackley said he deliberately chose family suburban shopping centres for his businesses.
"The customers keep coming back. We don't have any franchise fees so we are able to keep the prices down."
Mr Jackley said he was on friendly terms with most customers. "They ask about my daughter Tia, 3, and I always ask about their children," he said.
Mr Jackley said their bread range was the most popular while birthday cakes had become a niche with a big following on the Facebook page.
He said his new baker was experimenting with other breads, including ciabattaItalian white breads and different rye breads.
To thank his customers Jackley's Bakehouse is giving away two prizes of a year's supply of bread to families who buy bread from the two outlets.
The prize is $40 of bread a week totalling $2000 each.
Customers who buy any bread product are eligible for the draw which ends at noon on February 16 with the winner announced on February 23.
