Cairns Regional Council stops water fluoridation
CAIRNS Regional Council will stop fluoridating the local drinking water from next month.
Nine out of 10 councillors voted this morning to get rid of fluoride from the region's water supplies, with only Division 5 councillor Richie Bates believing a public vote should occur on the matter.
CRC joins Tablelands Regional Council as one of the only local governments in Queensland to exercise its newly granted power over mass fluoridation of public water.Other councils, including those in Brisbane and Ipswich, will continue with fluoridation even though it's no longer compulsory under state laws.
