Bam Margera ends his Australian tour with skydive in Cairns
SKATEBOARDING and punk icon Brandon "Bam" Margera ended his Australian tour on a high in the Far North yesterday, skydiving tandem from 4600m with Skydive Cairns.
On tour around the country with his band F------- Unstoppable, girlfriend Nicole Boyd and friends from the MTV series Jackass and CKY crews, Margera told The Cairns Post it was a fitting end to a debauched tour of Australia, with 10 sold-out shows and more than a bit of trouble, including getting kicked out of three hotels and off the Magnetic Island ferry.
"(The jump) was really good, it's my seventh jump now but it's still always scary just leaping out," Margera said.
"You get that butterfly feeling, but it gets better every time.
"It's super cold up there, though. I only wore a T-shirt and it was freezing."
However despite the experience, Margera said he would not be jumping without an instructor anytime soon.
"I don't trust my own judgment, I'd rather have a person who's done it 1000 times that I can rely on," he said.
Despite promising fellow band member Brandon Novak would complete his first jump naked, the plan was foiled at the 11th hour when Novak showed up for the training session in Cairns intoxicated, meaning he was the only member of the party who couldn't jump.
Margera said the controversy of the tour has made him love his time in Australia even more.
"Every show has been sold out, it's been a blast," he said.
Margera and his crew now head to Bali for a week.
"We head to Bali tomorrow to edit the DVD which we've been filming and probably do a few more paintings," he said, with a cheeky reference to his "painting parties" which saw him turfed out of three hotels.
"We're going to do a DVD with all the tour mayhem."
