Cairns donors eager to restock Bundy's undies
MOST of us take them for granted, but flood-devastated Bundaberg needs undies.
"Undies for Bundy" is a charity born out of the recent Queensland floods, when a Bundaberg man who lost everything declared "all I want is a clean pair of underwear and a size-15 pair of shoes".
Bundaberg mum-of-four Rachel Wyllie, her partner Matthew Daniels and friend Angela McLaren started the charity on Facebook to source donations of small goods for residents and soon saw more than 40 "Undies for Bundy" collection points pop up across Australia, including Cairns.
Mrs Wyllie said items such as rubber thongs, insect repellent and baby products had proved invaluable, and fresh underwear was in demand.
"Imagine going five days without having a shower and then putting your old undies back on," she said. "Thongs are also great, kids' singlets, baby stuff, soap and insect repellent because of the danger of dengue." Brinsmead mum Amanda Brownhill is Cairns' "Undies for Bundy" collector and said every little bit counted. tag To donate, visit the "Undies for Bundy" Facebook page and follow the link to collection details.
