For the Lidsters, it's Valentine's Day all year long
ROBIN Lidster popped the question in a snowstorm, and reckons he has been chasing the sun with his wife Valerie ever since.
Keen travellers Robin, 70, and Valerie Lidster, 67, are visiting Cairns from Yorkshire, England and have been married for 42 years.
The pair, who visited Alaska for their ruby wedding anniversary in 2011, devote plenty of time to continent-hopping but they always allow for dinner on Valentine's Day and the exchange of chocolates, cards and flowers.
"It is hard to pin it down to just Valentine's Day. It's a continuous special occasion," Mr Lidster said.
"Five years ago, Valentine's Day coincided with a trip to Singapore so we went to Raffles for lunch and, of course, had a Singapore Sling. This year, we will go out for dinner somewhere in Sydney."
A true romantic, Mr Lidster also likes to surprise Mrs Lidster on Valentine's Day.
"We once went to Hawaii, we ordered breakfast and on my plate was a diamond ring," Mrs Lidster said.
They both agree resolving arguments quickly is key to a happy marriage.
