A CAIRNS family received a dream phone call yesterday morning with the news they had won $2.22 million in Saturday's Gold Lotto superdraw.

"It's bloody lovely," the family's dad told Golden Casket.

"We don't know how we'll spend the money just yet, but we'll speak to a financial planner to get some advice. It will certainly make our retirement more comfortable.

"We're looking forward to celebrating the news with our children and grandchildren."

The family bought the winning Division 1 ticket from Edge Hill Newsagency for Saturday's $20 million superdraw.

Golden Casket spokeswomanZoe Knobel said the winners had elected to remain anonymous but were "rapt".

"They had a Winner's Circle card so we had their details and were able to contact them," she said.

"They now know they've won and are totally rapt. We hope this continues Cairns' lucky streak."

Cairns was rated as the second luckiest postcode in Queensland last year, behind Brisbane, with four Division 1 winners.

The biggest pay day of these was a $1.338 million windfall sold at Mt Sheridan newsagency in December.

"With this win in Saturday Gold Lotto's $20 million Superdraw in Edge Hill, it seems the good fortune for Cairns locals has continued into 2013," Ms Knobel said.

Queensland had two winners in Saturday's draw with a retired couple from Mirani, just outside Mackay, also collecting $2.22 million.

Saturday's winning numbers were: 41, 30, 29, 8, 33 and 36. Supplementaries23 and 9.
