Cairns cyclist to prove mettle overseas
FRESH from winning two golds and a silver at the national titles, emerging Cairns track cyclist Tennille Falappihas made the exclusive squad for August's UCI Junior Track World Championships being staged in Glasgow, Scotland.
Despite barely putting a foot wrong at the Australian titles, Falappi was not guaranteed a spot on the squad.
Now a confirmed member, the focus will be on grooming the 17-year-old for senior competition.
Cycling Australia's national junior performance director Matthew Gilmore said: "Our biggest challenge is managing the personal expectations of the riders, and we do that by making sure the focus is not on the outcome.
"We want the riders to be polite, respectful and punctual, and to behave the way we expect Australian team members to behave.
"That means they can hopefully step into the senior ranks eventually, with all the good habits already formed."
The sprint contingent will be coached by Sean Eadie, who oversees Falappi's development as part of the Cycling Australia Sprint Academy.
