Far North Queensland fears power price hike
FAR Northern welfare agencies are bracing for a spike in the number of families in need when a huge electricity price hike takes force.
The Queensland Competition Authority has recommended a 21.4 per cent increase in power prices from 2013-14, putting more pressure on families already struggling to pay the bills.
The authority yesterday revealed plans for a new scheme of "cost reflective" tariffs under which fixed charges would be significantly increased.
